No one else has posted about this yet, so.After installing the game, then running it, the 'preparing to launch' message pops up, closes and the launching process stops.Attempting to run the game directly gives a 'failed to initialize steam' message, a message that apparently is primarily associated with pubg when searching it.Ran through this:Verified, updated drivers, shifted the install to the default location.

Various permutations of admin/ compatibility mode. Mass killing of any running apps to be absolutely sure. Several restarts.Steam re-install in progress.Pretty stumped at this point. Anyone else hit this?Win10, 780gtx, 4770kPointed a debugger at it for the fun of it. Wheeee.Exception thrown at 0x1AF04C in DarkSoulsRemastered.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x000000.My Fix (your results may vary):.

Disabled all monitors but one in nvidia control panel (set up multiple displays section). Launched game, it worked. Re-enabled secondary monitors, and fiddled with positioning.

Game works with all monitors enabled now.ok thenSince this is apparently getting some more attention, here's some extra information:If you feel like fixing the 'failed to initialize steam' error when trying to launch the game from the executable (this does not fix the underlying problem). Create a steamappid.txt file in the same location as the executable, paste the id for dark souls remastered into it: 570940.It's far more likely that updating your drivers (video card mainly), verifying the install, and checking for antivirus problems are going to fix this than disabling monitors. So definitely run through the steam troubleshooting article first. Steam also creates a folder in appdata/common/Steamworks Shared with the c redists that you need installed, (2015 ones are the one the article mentions) doing a repair with those might help.
